During her tenure as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, a leading decision maker in U.S. foreign policy, actively prevented a ceasefire, denied Israel was blocking aid, and shielded Israel from global scrutiny.

By February of 2024, Thomas-Greenfield vetoed three UN Security Council ceasefire resolutions on Gaza. When asked by reporters for her rationale, Thomas-Greenfield replied, “Calling for an immediate cease-fire… would send the wrong message to Hamas,” thus justifying continued death in Gaza which, at that point, had already seen 30,000 Palestinians killed by Israel. 

In an April 2024 interview, when former CNN host Don Lemon asked about a later vote to abstain on a ceasefire resolution, Thomas-Greenfield repeated this cruel logic: “We abstained because there was no condemnation of Hamas.” This was an arbitrary and nonsensical condition as Hamas was not the party preventing a ceasefire.

Thomas-Greenfield also lied to Lemon about the U.S.’s intentions with Israel, insisting that the U.S. had been committed to a ceasefire—a claim later debunked by former Israeli ambassador to the U.S. Michael Herzog.
